Dear Colleagues,
We encourage you to join the Clinical Social Work Society of Delaware!
These have been extraordinary times, deeply troubling and disturbing but also filled with a renewed and expanded sense
of community, and a renewed respect for service. We all have read commentary over and over again about how our world has changed. It causes one to think about our world as clinical social workers.
As individual clinical social workers, we too have a community but do we know or have we forgotten who are neighbors
are? Do we remember that without our professional community’s supporting us we cannot endure and survive? Our
profession has always been inextricably interwoven with the social, economic and progressive movements of the day.
Remember back to your graduate school training. Remember our history. Our profession’s vitality has always been based
on interdependent relationships and on the social context. Our choices in this time in history, our relationships, our
collaborations will create great changes in our profession. But change in what direction….toward what values?
Clinical social workers are being asked to be on the front line to help even more so today. Our challenge to our clinical
social work colleagues is this: Stand together. Speak out for excellence and high quality clinical social work service. Form
collaborative relationships, network and join together with other clinical social workers. Beware of the dangers of silence
and fragmentation. Promote your profession; recognize its long and valuable history of service to individuals in their unique
and diverse worlds. Remind yourself of our clinical social work pedagogy. Value yourself as we value your work in today’s
difficult practice environment. Work with us; support us with your time, your membership, and your belief that we stand for
the continuation of a noble profession. Let future generations of social workers be inspired with our care of our profession in these difficult times.
